Pacific Telecommunications Council

14 September 2007

Dear PTC Member,

Are you willing to serve on PTC’s Board of Governors?  Or do you know someone else who would be well-qualified to serve?  As noted in the September Members Bulletin, the Pacific Telecommunications Council will hold an election in the coming weeks for half the seats on the Council’s Board of Governors (BG).  The BG is the principal leadership body of PTC.  It is involved in the development of strategy and is responsible for oversight of the Council’s affairs.  (Please note that there is no election for the Advisory Council this year as this is an off-year in that body’s two-year election cycle.)

The BG election provides an opportunity for persons with an interest in shaping the future of the organization to step forward.  As Members, we know that the PTC continues to provide an influential and welcome forum for interchange across the region on issues of mutual interest in an industry which is rapidly evolving.  With the new challenges facing all of us in the industry, the time is ripe to choose new members for the BG who can provide the strategic guidance necessary to make certain that the PTC is well-positioned for the future. This election will allow the new BG to take their seats at the time of the annual meeting in mid-January 2008.

We ask you to give us a few minutes of your time now to review this letter and the related documents. Please consider whether you or a friend or colleague should be nominated to serve a two-year term on the BG.  Representation is by region (Hawaii, Oceania, South/Southeast Asia, East Asia, North America, and Central/South America) and categories (non-profit and for-profit, individuals), reflecting the diversity that has been the hallmark of the PTC and which we seek to preserve.  Here are the critical dates:

  • 12 October: all nominations must be received by the PTC Secretariat (see instructions below).
  • 22 October: ballots to be issued to all Members including names and key identifying information for each candidate, as well as a short personal statement regarding the candidate’s views regarding the future direction of the Council.
  • 09 November: voting finishes and ballot papers to be sent to a Hawaii-based law firm, which will perform the vote-count in an impartial manner.
  • 16 November: results of the elections to be announced.

Key documents for nominations are available by clicking on the desired format below.  Please let the Secretariat know if you need these documents sent in another form.
