Executive Director's Corner

Calling All Professors, Academics, and Researchers,

PTC has a long history of engaging the academic community in our conference program planning and execution. We also have strong support from the academic community when it comes to our essay program. However, I would like to challenge the academic community to escalate its support in the area of conference planning.

Ken Zita our Board VP and Conference Chairman is working with his program committee to create the educational program for PTC’07. This work is happening as I write this article and the call for presentations has gone out. A large number of invitations have also been issued to potential keynote speakers and panelists.

Now is the time for our academic family to become engaged in the planning process. I invite you to send ideas about topics, speakers, and presentations to Claudine Naruse on the PTC staff. She will in turn insure that the committee receives your thoughts. We need your input to insure that our program is addressing the most current topics of the day and the civil society situations where telecommunications and ICT can make a difference.

Beyond Telecom @ PTCÕ07: Call for Participation addresses diverse range of topics

You are invited to submit a proposal to speak at PTCÕ07. Special consideration will be given to proposals that address emerging business models for integrating advanced content, application and information services with traditional telecom offerings. We also warmly encourage proposals from PTC member constituencies in areas such as carrier services, IP, satellite, submarine cable, regulation, education, research, country studies and others. Potential participants are requested to propose topics according to four broad themes:

• Services and business operations
• Technology
• Policy and regulation
• Civil society and applications

Topics

Examples of topics for which PTCÕ07 invites panel presentations, workshops, tutorials, special interest groups and sponsored sessions include but are not limited to:

New Rates for PTC Mid-Pacific Marketplace Exhibits

Act Now! Exhibit booth rates are going up!
PTC has been preparing its budget for fiscal year 2006/2007 and, as with any business, we find that we are unable to continue to charge exhibition fees that have remained unchanged in the face of rising costs for the past several years. Therefore, our rates for exhibition space at PTCÕ07 are being raised effective July 1, 2006. However, because we have previously offered your company our PTCÕ06 rates, we will honor those rates (see below) if you book exhibition space (sign a contract) by June 30, 2006.

Non-Member Rate - $2500
