PTC Advisory Council Launches Appeals
Committee
Aloha PTC Colleagues,
On behalf of the PTC Advisory Council (AC) I’d like
to inform you about the development of an Appeals Committee
as part of the Advisory Council’s duties and structure.
The Appeals Committee development has been approved by the
Board of Governors, and the Advisory Council will be electing
its five member panel from the AC ranks in the coming weeks.
The effort was led by Dr. Tom Cooper, a long-standing PTC
member and an internationally-known ethicist. He is also
the Publisher of Media
Ethics magazine. I helped in the work, and we were ably
assisted by PTC counsel Tara Giunta, Esq., the PTC Secretariat,
and others.
The purpose of the Appeals Committee is to consider and
make recommendations to the Board of Governors (BG) pertaining
to any issues, concerns, or complaints regarding the PTC
that are referred to it either by the BG, the Secretariat,
or members and associates of PTC.
If required to hear an issue, the Appeals Committee will
issue findings. However, it is important to note that the
Board of Governors is the governing body of PTC, and the
Appeals Committee’s findings are advisory to the BG.
In this sense the Appeals Committee is not a court of appeals.
The Appeals Committee’s function is to serve as a
kind of informal ombudsman or impartial hearing officer,
in the event that issues and disputes within PTC have not
been reasonably settled by the individuals involved. The
Appeals Committee is not a court of first resort. Individuals
with issues in PTC must first communicate directly to solve
problems and resolve differences. We are, after all, an organization
of communications professionals.
The Appeals Committee document, which will be posted to
the PTC website, contains safeguards for confidentiality
and due process of hearing the issues.
These safeguards shall be such that both the Appeals Committee
and BG retain their autonomy and there is never an appearance
or actuality of favoritism, cursory treatment, or arbitrariness.
One objective is that all PTC members should have the assurance
that, in all disputes, PTC seeks the highest ground of justice,
fairness, deliberation, and impartiality, without regard
to their office or background.
In this AC Appeals Committee, PTC once again works to fulfill
our PTC
Mission and Vision. We are an organization that serves
as a council of information and communication technologies
professionals, with global perspectives.
We represent diverse peoples, nationalities, sectors, organizations,
and regions. As such, our activities and discussions may
raise controversies from time to time. Yet we are committed
to work together in ethical ways, with transparent processes.
This is what world-class leaders do. I am proud to be part
of an organization with this vision.

If PTCs Existence is Important to You Secure
the Future!
PTC has successfully produced 28 consecutive annual conferences
since 1979. Over those 28 years, our annual conference has
grown to be the premiere Asia-Pacific telecom networking
conference, attracting thousands of industry leaders to Honolulu
every January for valuable bilateral meetings, critical relationship-building,
and a global knowledge exchange.
Dozens of regular attendees and supporting organizations
have praised the value of PTC’s annual conferences
as critical events facilitating productive meetings. Jonathan
Kirchner, vice president, marketing & business development
for Loral Skynet sees it this way:
“Over many years, I have found PTC to consistently
create one of the best conference settings for actually getting
business done. Making progress in, and closing, business
is about relationships – the formation and maintenance
of them, at the highest levels in an organization. PTC attracts
and creates the ideal environment for meeting the most senior
executives of those companies we want to do business with
in the Asia Pacific and Pacific Island regions.” Other
participating executives have reported that they can schedule
40 productive meetings a year at PTC’s January conference,
making the event extremely cost-efficient.
Only about 25% of the telecom community traveling to Honolulu
for PTC each January (estimated at about 4,000 people) is
actually registered for the conference. This means that approximately
3,000 beneficiaries of the “buzz” and value created
by PTC take advantage for free. We need your support to change
this equation and to insure PTC’s future.
As we recover from the economic downturn of the past few
years, we need your help to increase paid attendance and
sponsorships and to secure corporate funding to insure PTC’s
future and allow its survival and growth.
At PTC’07 we will unveil the “Mid-Pacific Marketplace,” a
consolidated exhibition, business networking, and meeting
venue designed to expand your access to the business leaders
of the Asia-Pacific telecom community. We are also inviting
our top corporate supporters to invest beyond their regular
sponsorship fees to become not only a sponsor, but a Corporate
Partner (CP); a new level of PTC membership. As a CP you
are making a statement to a global industry that you are
investing in the long-term future of PTC. You will receive
repetitive brand exposure in all our electronic and paper
communications as a member of a special underwriting community.
To learn more about the Mid-Pacific Marketplace, our sponsorship
program, and the Corporate Partners program, please contact
