PTC – Where the West Meets Asia
By Stephen G. Tom, Executive Director

I write this in the midst of a revealing trip to the U.S. East Coast en route to Singapore for the Asia-Pacific Satellite Communications Council annual conference and other late September meetings. Among the many things I am discovering and rediscovering is how strongly some of our members feel about the value of PTC membership.

Every one of your fellow PTC members I’ve met in Washington, D.C., New York and Boston acknowledges that even in an environment of tight budgets and careful evaluation of conference and trade show costs, PTC is an invaluable point of contact for business networking.

It was exciting to meet JC Murphy, president of Excel Switching Corporation of Hyannis, Massachusetts, and his management team at VON in Boston. JC was enthusiastic about the value they have derived from their participation in PTC for the past three years. Last year alone they were able to meet 10 new potential customers at PTC’05. “PTC is one of the best conferences for meeting potential Asia-based customers,” JC said.

Michael Antonovich, PanAmSat’s senior vice president, global sales, said that although Hawaii is a very attractive place to hold a conference, he finds the quantity and quality of the business meetings that can be held at PTC’s conferences keeps him and his staff extremely busy during their stay in “paradise.”

Three more executives – Jason Kowal, executive vice president of PriMetrica, which owns TeleGeography; Stephan Beckert, research director of TeleGeography; and Tim Stronge, vice president, research, for TeleGeography – called PTC the best place to meet with telecom representatives from all across Asia at one central venue. Jason pointed out that although there are some very good conferences in Asia, they tend to draw regional audiences. PTC’s diverse attendance allows TeleGeography to hold meetings with telecom representatives from many Asian countries at a single conference. Stephan added, “PTC is truly a place where the West meets Asia and it is a very efficient and productive place to do business.”

As these examples make clear, PTC is known as the place where Asian telecommunications professionals meet with their counterparts from the West every January in Honolulu, Hawaii. Please watch your mail for a complete brochure describing PTC’06 and sign up now to secure the best discounts. If you want to be proactive, ask conference assistant Odessa Kawai – Odessa@ptc.org – for a copy of the brochure.

You’ll also be interested to know that a number of the PTC supporters I’ve been meeting are committing to major sponsorships and they are all providing constructive feedback on how we can make PTC’06 even more valuable. So with our members’ help, our next conference will be more of a value than ever before! Thank you – and see you there!

Advance Notice of Upcoming PTC Elections for Board of Governors Openings

Aloha PTC Members,

Jay Gillette

The PTC Advisory Council announces upcoming elections of the PTC Board of Governors (BG). Each year, generally half the Board of Governors is elected, to serve a two-year term. Therefore we have elections every year, for about half the BG, to ensure a regular rotation on the Board of Governors.

The Advisory Council will coordinate nominations for the open Board of Governors terms. Nominations will be taken in October. The voting for Board of Governor seats will be held in November 2005, and the results of the BG elections will be announced in December 2005. Newly-elected Board members take office in January 2006.

We look forward to your participation in this most important election process for PTC.

Mahalo,

Jay Gillette
Chair
