PTC - Carnegie Mellon University Cooperation

by: Joe Mertz, Ph.D., Program Director, Technology Consulting in the Global Community, Carnegie Mellon University
PTC members have a new avenue for effective corporate social responsibility and bridging the digital divides in the Pacific region. PTC is partnering with Carnegie Mellon University’s Technology Consulting in the Global Community (TCinGC) program to help technologically underserved communities throughout the Pacific region improve their use of ICT.
Since its inception, part of the PTC’s mission has been to rally members around efforts “to overcome uneven development and competency divides.” TCinGC has a track record of success working with governments and non-profit entities to build their capacity to use, manage, and sustain their use of ICTs. This selective program trains and deploys university students with valuable technology skills to serve as ICT consultants.

Board of Governors Election: Succession Planning Committee (SPC) Appointed
Advisory Council Chair Ed Simnett has appointed Tim Logue and Chris Vonwiller as the SPC committee this year for the up-coming Board of Governors (BG) election.
The SPC is mandated in our current bylaws as a committee of the Advisory Council to autonomously organize and operate the election. The Secretariat provides support for this process and an independent accounting firm handles the ballot count and certifies the result.
This year, there are 7 seats (half of the 14 member BG) up for election for two-year terms to begin January 2008. There is no Advisory Council (AC) election as this is an off year from the two-year AC election cycle.
The current Board members with terms expiring January 2008 are:
Yoshikazu Kobayashi (For Profit, East Asia)
William Lin (For Profit, East Asia)
Richard Nickelson (Individual)
Richard Taylor (Individual)
Kenji Saga (Individual)
Robert Walp (For Profit, North America)There is also currently one vacant seat.
All members will be receiving a notice of the election on or about 14 September including the nomination form and criteria explanations. Nominations are due by 19 October. You can contact the committee by email: spc@ptc.org
