President's Welcome Message
Preparations are going well for PTC’12, our 34th consecutive annual conference. Once again, the Pacific Telecommunications Council looks forward to welcoming our members and all professionals in telecommunications and ICT endeavors to this annual event.
In our ICT industry, recovery from the worldwide economic recession seems to have occurred, presenting new opportunities throughout the Asia-Pacific region and worldwide. Many of these are creating new paradigms, and hence substantial disruption to the industry structures and related economics that we have known. The PTC Program team consider that providing a better understanding of these changes would be timely at PTC’12 and so with the new wave of smart initiatives across the broad spectrum of ICT technology and the disruptive impact they may have, PTC has adopted the theme of Harnessing Disruption: Global, Mobile, Social, Local.
Our theme affords enormous scope for presentations and papers and we are looking forward to an exciting conference as we explore the ramifications of the changing world on business strategy, network capabilities and partnerships.
PTC’12 offers an important and substantial platform for understanding where we are and for providing insights to where we may be heading. We are also conscious of the major challenges not only in developed economies, but also continuing efforts to connect the unconnected and to provision appropriate systems and services in developing economies.
Once again our conference will have the Hilton Hawaiian Village as its campus, affording a unique opportunity to mix and meet, learn and share, as well as promote and deal. The venue provides an important arena for extensive business meetings, making it one of most productive and enjoyable conferences anywhere.
Attendance at PTC’12 is essential for everyone moving forward with exciting developments in the coming year. We look forward to seeing you in January!
