At its January 17, 2007 meeting, the Pacific Telecommunications Council's Board of Governors decided to open a search for a new PTC Executive Director.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • leading PTC to improved financial success and stability;
  • serving as the public face for PTC;
  • defining and delivering the value of PTC to key constituents including members, sponsors, institutional partners, attendees, "networkers" and other industry and policy leaders;
  • lead the planning and management of an exceptional annual conference and, as directed by the PTC Board of Governors, of regional and mid year conferences, featuring leaders in the many sectors and domains that have formed the PTC community over the past 30 years, as well as to new communities that will be important to PTC in the future;
  • collaboratively planning content appropriate for the premiere annual ICT conference in the Pacific, as well as other PTC events;
  • enhancing the value of PTC activities and events to members and participants while increasing revenue opportunities for PTC;
  • supporting a professional non-profit Secretariat in the execution of its duties; developing innovative solutions to improve governance, increase membership and membership engagement in PTC activities.

Applications will be reviewed with particular consideration given to the degree of:

  • experience directing international non-profit organizations in general and PTC and telecom and ICT-related organizations in the Asia-Pacific region in particular;
  • a proven track record in planning and directing international conferences;
  • a proven track record selling significant sponsorship or advertising relationships with first-tier corporations in PTC's  sphere of influence;
  • broad subject matter expertise in international telecommunications, information technology, media, internet development, technology policy and related fields;
  • cultural, political, technological and economic familiarity with the Asia-Pacific region; and
  • proven executive capacities and experience which demonstrate, in particular, the following competencies:

    • teamwork, partnership, and co-operation;
    • experience and success leading an international non-profit organization with member governance;
    • creativity in achieving financial success;
    • oral and written communication skills;
    • initiative;
    • flexibility;
    • leadership and supervisory excellence;
    • experience in collaboratively planning and creating compelling content for events for an international ICT community.

Although the PTC Executive Director has historically been a full-time employee of the organization, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Board does not consider this an absolute requirement.  Consequently, the Board of Governors will consider other alternatives, provided that its objectives can be achieved.  Therefore, applications which propose other feasible solutions will also be considered.

Applications should include a résumé, references and financial requirements associated with the applicant's approach, along with a cover letter that describes the applicant's specific ideas and capabilities to lead PTC to greater success.

Please submit proposals electronically, titled "PTC PROPOSAL" to tata.bella@ic.gc.ca by February 28, 2007.
