OptiCool Technologies

Matt Roberts is a strategic sales leader with over a decade of experience in the electrical and data center infrastructure industries. As VP of Sales at OptiCool Technologies, he leads the go-to-market strategy for innovative liquid cooling solutions tailored to modern data center needs. Known for his data-driven approach, Matt specializes in building high-performance sales teams, optimizing channel partnerships, and driving growth in complex, technical markets.

PTC: What technology breakthrough would pave the way for the ICT industry?

MR: The next major breakthrough will be advanced cooling systems designed to support high-density, high-performance workloads—especially in AI, edge, and colocation environments. As data centers evolve, the limitations of traditional air-based cooling systems are becoming a bottleneck for performance and energy efficiency.

At OptiCool, we’ve pioneered the use of refrigerant-based rear door heat exchangers that extract heat directly at the source. Our Delta T4© technology delivers a step-change in efficiency by leveraging liquid refrigerant—offering up to 10x better heat convection than water. This technology reduces energy consumption, increases rack densities, and helps operators future-proof their infrastructure to meet the growing demands of ICT.

PTC: If one thing should be redeveloped within the telecom and related industries, what should it be?

MR: The approach to thermal management needs a complete overhaul. Many telecom and edge deployments still rely on legacy air-based systems that are inefficient, space-consuming, and no longer viable for today’s workloads. As the industry shifts toward 5G, edge computing, and remote data hubs, cooling becomes a limiting factor.

What’s needed is a move toward modular, rack-level liquid cooling solutions that can scale with demand, operate efficiently in constrained spaces, and deliver predictable performance even in non-traditional data center environments. OptiCool’s solutions were designed with this challenge in mind—offering a plug-and-play rear door cooling system that’s optimized for telecom racks and can be deployed without major infrastructure changes.

PTC: Is it important for companies to continue to innovate their organization or offerings, and why?

MR: Absolutely. Innovation isn’t optional—it’s a strategic requirement for survival in a market where workload demands, environmental regulations, and customer expectations are evolving rapidly.

At OptiCool, innovation is in our DNA. From launching Version 4 of our Delta T technology to integrating AI-driven performance optimization, we continuously invest in R&D to stay ahead of where the market is going—not where it’s been.

Our cooling solutions are not only highly efficient, but also scalable and adaptable, which makes them ideal for everything from hyperscale to edge deployments. By keeping innovation at the center of our organization, we’re helping customers future-proof their operations—and we’re ensuring our own relevance in a fast-changing industry.

PTC: What value does PTC hold for you/your company?

MR: PTC offers a direct connection to the people and conversations shaping the future of digital infrastructure. For a company like OptiCool, which is driving innovation in high-efficiency data center cooling, that access is invaluable.

The ability to engage with decision-makers from across the ICT ecosystem—network operators, data center developers, integrators, and hyperscalers—allows us to better understand emerging trends and position our solutions where they’ll have the greatest impact. PTC also provides a platform to showcase innovation, gain visibility, and build relationships in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond—critical as we scale globally.

PTC: How does PTC fit your company’s goals or career purpose?

MR: OptiCool’s mission is to redefine how the world cools its digital infrastructure, with a focus on enabling next-generation workloads through energy-efficient, rack-level cooling solutions. PTC fits directly into that goal by giving us a venue to connect with global operators and infrastructure partners who are actively looking for scalable, sustainable solutions.

From a personal perspective, being part of PTC aligns with my broader purpose of driving transformative change in the data center industry—not just through technology, but through meaningful partnerships and thought leadership. PTC enables those connections to happen faster and more effectively, making it a key part of our growth and innovation strategy.

PTC: What is something that not that many people know about you?

MR: I’m deeply passionate about applying AI and analytics to sales strategy. While most people know me for my commercial leadership in the infrastructure space, I’ve spent a lot of time learning how to use data modeling and machine learning to improve sales forecasting, territory planning, and deal conversion.

It’s a unique edge I bring to my role—blending traditional relationship-based selling with data-driven precision. That intersection of people and data is where I think the future of sales leadership is heading.

PTC: What advice would you share with current and future graduates interested in this field?

MR: Don’t just focus on the technology—understand the business problems it solves. The ICT and data center industries are going through a massive transformation, and companies need people who can connect technical capabilities with real-world customer needs. Get comfortable with data, ask better questions, and always look for ways to challenge the status quo. Whether you’re in engineering, sales, or operations, the people who make the biggest impact are those who can think strategically and execute decisively.

PTC: What has been a positive outcome organizationally or individually given the current state of the world?

MR: The shift toward more sustainable and resilient infrastructure has accelerated, aligning perfectly with OptiCool’s mission. It’s opened the door to faster innovation and greater customer engagement around efficiency. Personally, it reinforced the value of staying agile and using change as a catalyst for growth.
