A for-profit entity is an organization that is commercial (i.e., for-profit) in nature. To join PTC, a for-profit entity must have a major interest in the Pacific region or be able to show a relationship with and an interest in the development of telecommunications in the region.

Note: As part of the membership application process, each organization must submit an organizational overview and indicate the total number of employees the organization employs.

A non-profit entity is an organization that is officially designated as such within its state or country of origin. To join PTC, a non-profit entity must have a major interest in the Pacific region or be able to show a relationship with and an interest in the development of telecommunications in the area.

Examples of non-profit organizations include government ministries and departments, educational institutions, foundations, international organizations, and charities. Non-profit organizations do not include public or para-statal corporations such as a PTT. To determine whether an organization qualifies as a non-profit entity for membership purposes, please email membership@ptc.org.

Note: As part of the membership application process, each organization must submit an organizational overview and indicate the total number of employees the organization employs.

Affiliate membership is restricted to organizations that are unable to become full PTC members due to their bylaws or similar restrictions. Affiliate members may enjoy all benefits of membership except for voting in PTC elections and holding office.

Note: Affiliate member applicants must prove that the applicant’s organization is not legally qualified to apply for membership in one of the other membership categories.

Individual – Professional Researcher/Academic

Membership is restricted to professional researchers or academics. Individuals that are part of a PTC member organization may apply for individual membership in addition to the entity membership.

Individual Retiree

An individual who is fully retired (must not be self-employed or holding a part-time position), and who would like to continue their association with the PTC, the industry and their peers. 

Individual Retiree members may enjoy all the benefits of PTC Membership.

Individual For-Profit Associate*

An individual who wishes to become a member but is employed by a for-profit organization that does not wish to become a PTC Member may qualify for an Associate Membership, which is available to no more than three (3) individuals from the same organization.

An Individual For-Profit Associate Member cannot represent an entity or his or her own firm. Consultants, independent contractors, sole proprietors, etc. must apply as For-Profit entities (see above).

Individual membership is not intended to be available to those representing a For-Profit organization that is not an entity member of PTC if, in the opinion of the Secretariat, their position or decision-making authority would allow them to strongly influence their organization to become a corporate member. Thus, For example, the owner of a For-Profit organization would not be eligible for an individual membership and would be encouraged to have their organization join as a corporate member.

Individual Non-Profit Associate*

An individual who wishes to become a member but is employed by a non-profit organization that does not wish to become a PTC Member may qualify for an Associate Membership, which is available to no more than three (3) individuals from the same organization.

An Individual Non-Profit Associate Member cannot represent an entity or his or her own organization. Consultants, independent contractors, sole proprietors, etc. must apply as For-Profit or Non-Profit entities, as appropriate (see above).

Individual Non-Profit Associate membership is not intended to be available to an officer of a non-profit organization that is not an entity member of the Council if in the opinion of the Secretariat that officer is in a position to strongly influence a decision of their organization to become an entity member of the PTC.

Note: Applicants are required to submit a short curriculum vitae with their application.

*Associate members may enjoy PTC Membership benefits, with the following limitations which apply to any type of associate membership:

  • Individual Associates may not represent their organization (for-profit or non-profit).
  • Individual Associates may not reserve a suite at the Annual Conference on behalf of their For-Profit or Non-Profit organization or entity.
  • The name of their organization cannot be listed on their Annual Conference badge. 
  • The name of their organization cannot be listed in the Annual Conference program. 
  • The name of their organization cannot be listed in the PTC Membership database.

Student membership is restricted to bona fide full-time students.

Note: Student membership applicants are required to submit a curriculum vitae and proof of student status with their application. Students must provide proof of student status again for each membership renewal.

Members will receive a renewal invoice by mail two months prior to their membership expiration date. For example, if membership acceptance was granted in April 2017, the membership year will have officially started on 1 April 2017, and will expire on  31 March 2018.

The membership expiration date can be found on your original membership dues invoice.

If the member renewal invoice is paid before the due date indicated on the invoice, members will receive a 5% early payment discount.

If member renewal dues are not paid by the due date, members will be resigned and asked to pay a 10% reinstatement fee if they wish to rejoin PTC.
