Revitalizing Opportunities: What is the Next “Silver Lining” in ICT? In the face of ongoing global challenges such as inflation, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical uncertainties, the information and communications technology (ICT) sector continues to face new hurdles. What is the future of cloud services and how will digital infrastructure adapt to high interest rates? Are we on the brink of a downturn or is there a resurgence on the horizon? What factors will influence the trajectory of our industry?

The role of video and artificial intelligence (AI) will be significant. As we explore deeper into how video, AI, and government data protection measures are revitalizing opportunities, without doubt, AI is emerging as the innovative force, a “silver lining, offering new possibilities. Video technology and AI are driving transformation, not just weathering the storm, but “refilling the glass” with fresh new possibilities.

As demand for video expands, new avenues emerge: AI, the disruptor of our times, stands poised to be the next big thing, breathing life into an economic landscape struggling with uncertainty. More specifically, generative AI adoption has accelerated faster than any other new technology on record and continues to grow at exponential speed.

According to McKinsey & Company in The Economic Potential of Generative AI (2023), “… funding for generative AI, though still a fraction of total investments in artificial intelligence, is significant and growing rapidly, reaching a total of $12 billion in the first five months of 2023 alone. Venture capital and other private external investments in generative AI increased by an average compound growth rate of 74 percent annually from 2017 to 2022. During the same period, investments in artificial intelligence overall rose annually by 29 percent, albeit from a higher base.”

“From a geographic perspective, external private investment in generative AI, mostly from tech giants and venture capital firms, is largely concentrated in North America, reflecting the continent’s current domination of the overall AI investment landscape,” the McKinsey & Company report continued.

The intersection of economic challenges and AI-driven technological innovation is a captivating topic that speaks to the current realities faced by industries worldwide.
