An active industry veteran, he comes equipped with a combination of sales and project management skills that will help him expand the footprint and acceptance of Sify’s data centers. He is active on the industry front, scripting the narrative between the industry and regulatory bodies. He is also a committed advocate for the use of renewables in the data center business.

Prior to Sify, Sharad was at Vantage, where he was tasked with building their data center business. This was preceded by a long stint at Amazon Web Services, where he managed capacity delivery for the APAC region.

PTC: What technology breakthrough would pave the way for the ICT industry?

SA: The breakthrough that will redefine the ICT industry is the fusion of AI and edge computing at scale, supported by advances in energy efficiency and intelligent infrastructure. As data volumes surge and real-time responsiveness becomes essential, centralized computing models struggle to keep up. Moving compute closer to the user, and at the edge, enables faster, more secure, and localized decision-making.

At Sify, we’re building AI-ready, modular data centers that can support this shift. These facilities are designed for scalability, sustainability, and hybrid cloud workloads, laying the foundation for a more responsive and intelligent digital economy. This transformation will empower industries from healthcare to manufacturing to act on insights instantly, responsibly, and efficiently.

PTC: How can telecommunications technologies help humanity?

SA: Telecommunications technologies today have become a necessity in equipping humanity on a daily basis. It has evolved to significantly contribute to humanity by enabling instant global communication, facilitating seamless business operations, supporting remote work and education, and enhancing connectivity.

Telecommunications also underpins critical infrastructure like emergency services, disaster recovery, and facilitates the rapid exchange of information across vast distances.

Telecommunications technology will only continue to evolve and enhance its contribution to humanity, especially to underserved communities around the world, fostering a culture of maintaining relationships, community engagement, and connecting individuals with networks to support marginalized groups around the world.

PTC: If one thing should be redeveloped within the telecom and related industries, what should it be?

SA: The telecom industry needs to move beyond siloed operations and embrace collaborative ecosystems. Today’s digital demands, scaling AI, enabling 5G, ensuring sustainability, all require “shared innovation.” Strategic alliances can act as force multipliers, accelerating progress across infrastructure, cloud, and connectivity. At Sify, we’ve built successful partnerships with hyperscalers for hybrid cloud enablement, renewable energy providers to power green data centers, and interconnect platforms to deliver global reach with local reliability. These collaborations reduce time to market, optimize costs, and bring cutting-edge solutions to customers faster. Reimagining business models around co-creation and shared value can unlock agility, resilience, and inclusive growth across the ICT ecosystem. In a connected world, progress depends on how well we collaborate and partner, and not how much we control.

PTC: What value does PTC hold for you/your company?

SA: PTC is a strategic platform for Sify to engage with global thought leaders, partners, and customers at the forefront of digital infrastructure. It offers a unique convergence of subsea, cloud, edge, and data center conversations, aligning perfectly with our integrated approach to digital transformation. For us, PTC is not just a conference or a membership; it’s a relationship accelerator and innovation exchange. It helps us stay ahead of market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging customer needs across the Asia-Pacific and global corridors. It also allows us to showcase our capabilities, forge alliance partnerships, and explore opportunities to co-create solutions in areas like cloud interconnect, green data centers, and edge computing. In short, PTC gives us insight, access, and influence within a high-impact global community in the industry.

PTC: How does PTC fit your company’s goals or career purpose?

SA: PTC directly aligns with Sify’s strategic goals of expanding our digital infrastructure footprint and deepening our relevance across global markets. As India’s first provider of enterprise network and data center services, we continue to enable global hyperscalers, OTTs, and digital-first enterprises to succeed in this region. PTC offers the ideal venue to engage with this ecosystem, from content providers to submarine cable operators and data center peers. For Sify, PTC supports our vision of scaling green, modular, AI-ready data centers with high-capacity networks, through collaboration and innovation. Most importantly, PTC provides invaluable learning and leadership exposure, connecting us with visionaries shaping the future of telecom, cloud, and sustainability. It inspires our teams and leadership to think globally, act agile, and stay mission-aligned in delivering infrastructure that matters.

PTC: What advice would you share with current and future graduates interested in this field?

SA: This industry sits at the intersection of connectivity, cloud, and innovation, and it is evolving fast. To stay relevant, invest in building both breadth and depth: understand how networks, data centers, and digital platforms work together, but also specialize in a skill that’s in demand.

AI is beginning to play a powerful role, for instance, from network optimization to customer engagement. Having a working knowledge of AI tools and concepts is a plus. Prioritize continuous learning: short courses, certifications, and real-world problem-solving will keep you ahead. Just as important are your communication and collaboration skills. The future belongs to those who can connect the dots… between tech, people, and purpose.
