Chief Growth Officer
Assured Communications

Tim Parker joined Assured Communications in 2024, bringing more than 30 years of leadership in IT, data center, and telecommunications. He has held executive roles at GigStreem, Flexential, ViaWest, GoDaddy, PayPal, Charles Schwab, and Motorola, where his work helped shape modern internet and e-commerce infrastructure. Tim is known for his strategic vision and technical leadership across network design and deployment. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado and serves on the Fujitsu Technical Advisory Board for Photonics.

PTC: What technology breakthrough would pave the way for the ICT industry?

TP: Photonics and pluggable optics are accelerating the shift to scalable, energy-efficient infrastructure. As AI, distributed computing, and cloud-based workloads strain traditional data center models, photonics enables high-bandwidth, low-latency interconnects without the need for massive long-haul networks. Modular, co-packaged optics streamline network layers and reduce heat and power draw, making them ideal for metro environments and edge locations. These technologies also improve fault tolerance and simplify scaling, two critical factors as workloads move closer to the edge. To meet modern demands, ICT infrastructure must be faster, denser, and more efficient, and photonics is making that future possible.

PTC: How can telecommunications technologies help humanity?

TP: Telecommunications is the infrastructure that enables progress. It brings healthcare to remote communities through telemedicine and remote monitoring, improves education through online learning and virtual classrooms, and supports economic mobility by enabling remote work, e-commerce, and financial inclusion through mobile banking. During disasters, it facilitates early warnings and coordinated relief, saving lives and resources. It strengthens public services, supports real-time environmental monitoring, and enables governments to deliver more transparent, accessible services. Emerging technologies like IoT and AI further expand its reachโ€”powering smarter cities, improving energy efficiency, and unlocking new scientific and medical breakthroughs. By connecting families across borders, fostering global collaboration, and bridging social and economic divides, telecommunications helps build more resilient and inclusive communities. Its ability to reach the underserved, support innovation, and create new pathways for growth makes it one of humanityโ€™s most powerful tools for social and economic advancement.

PTC: What network-related development will have the greatest impact in our industry?

TP: The widespread adoption of 5G is one of the most transformative developments in telecommunications. Its combination of faster speeds, lower latency, and higher capacity enables an entirely new class of applications, including autonomous vehicles, real-time cloud gaming, remote surgeries, and industrial automation. It also supports the rapid growth of IoT and edge computing, which rely on highly responsive, high-density connectivity. As 5G scales, it requires a complete rethink of infrastructure strategies, including how and where networks are built, particularly in rural and urban edge markets. For operators, 5G is not just a technical upgrade but a fundamental shift in how networks are designed and consumed. It drives the need for new partnerships, fresh approaches to interconnection, and greater investment in distributed infrastructure. The long-term impact of 5G will stretch across nearly every sector, reshaping the way people, systems, and devices connect and interact in the digital world.

PTC: Is it important for companies to continue to innovate their organization or offerings, and why?

TP: Yes, innovation is essential in todayโ€™s fast-moving digital infrastructure landscape. The rise of AI, 5G, satellite, and edge technologies is rapidly changing how networks are built and used. At the same time, customers expect faster, more reliable, and more efficient services. Innovation helps companies meet these expectations while staying ahead of competitive, regulatory, and environmental pressures. It opens the door to new revenue models, modernized operations, and greater resilience. For Assured, innovation is not just about keeping pace. It is central to delivering critical connectivity in complex environments and supporting clients across land, sea, and space. Growth requires progress.

PTC: What value does PTC hold for you/your company?

TP: PTC is a catalyst for global collaboration. It brings together professionals from across the ICT ecosystem to exchange ideas, share experiences, and form partnerships that drive real-world outcomes. For Assured, it provides access to decision-makers, new market insights, and conversations that help shape strategic direction. The relationships we build at PTC support long-term growth and impact.

PTC: What vital piece of information should people know about PTC?

TP: PTC is more than an Annual Conference. It is a community of people who shape the future of connectivity. The informal conversations, shared experiences, and willingness to collaborate make it unique. When you embrace the Aloha spirit, you build relationships that go beyond business and create opportunities that matter.

PTC: What advice would you share with current and future graduates interested in this field?

TP: Be bold. This industry moves fast and rewards curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to explore unfamiliar territory. Whether you are working with networks, infrastructure, or software, focus on impact. Push beyond what feels safe or easy. Your work will help shape how people connect, live, and thrive.

PTC: What is something not that many people know about you?

TP: I did not always lead from the front. Early in my career, I followed the lead of others and stayed quiet. That changed when I learned the value of speaking up and making decisions with confidence. Leadership is a choice you make every day, and it starts with showing up fully.
