The PTC Webinar Series: Frictionless Business™ continued with “Satellite Reset: The Industry Transformed,” which tackled the question of what the post-pandemic satellite industry will look like.

Moderated by Katherine Gizinski, chief executive officer of ManSat, panelists brought diverse perspectives from across the industry:

  • Mark Dankberg, Chairman of the Board & Executive Chairman, Viasat
  • Debra Facktor, Head of AIRBUS U.S. Space Systems, AIRBUS U.S. Space and Defense, Inc.
  • Erwin Hudson, Vice President, Telesat LEO
  • Chris Quilty, Founder & Partner, Quilty Analytics

Momentous changes were already underway within the satellite industry when the COVID-19 crisis unsettled lives and businesses around the world over the last year. The global satcom industry contracted by 2.7% in 2019. In 2020, segments of the satellite industry were hit hard and rippling effects of the pandemic accelerated several bankruptcies and sales, while remote work and school highlighted a tremendous and growing demand for connectivity from consumers.

In this webinar, panelists weighed in on key industry transformations going into and coming out of the pandemic. Topics covered included demand growth and anticipated trends, rural broadband, key growth markets in the Pacific Rim, concerns about the sustainability of space and existing regulatory frameworks, capital inflow and SPACs, and future capabilities.
