How can telecommunications technologies help humanity?
JTR: Telecommunications is the foundation of modern connection, enabling inclusion, resilience, and progress across the globe. At 1547, we build the data center infrastructure that makes these connections possible, from telehealth and remote learning to secure communications during emergencies. Our interconnection-rich facilities help organizations securely connect to cloud platforms, network providers, and digital services while supporting the growing demand for AI and distributed applications closer to end users. In Hawaiʻi , our facilities serve as gateways that directly link residents, businesses, and government agencies to global networks and cloud providers. This not only reduces the digital divide locally but also anchors global trans-pacific connectivity that millions rely on for commerce and daily life. By investing in resilient, carrier-neutral data centers, we ensure that critical access remains secure, scalable, and operational, especially during times of crisis. Reliable digital infrastructure enables innovation, economic opportunity, and access to essential services that improve quality of life worldwide.
What network-related development will have the greatest impact in our industry?
JTR: The expansion of carrier-neutral interconnection hubs and regional digital infrastructure will transform the future of digital infrastructure. These hubs create dense ecosystems where carriers, enterprises, cloud providers, AI platforms, and hyperscalers can exchange data securely and efficiently, driving innovation across industries. At 1547, we are advancing this model through facilities like AlohaNAP and DRFortress in Hawaiʻi . As transpacific gateways, they provide direct access to submarine cables and global networks, enabling low latency data movement essential for cloud platforms, financial services, AI applications, and government operations. As AI workloads become increasingly distributed across regional facilities, NeoCloud environments, and public cloud platforms, interconnection will become even more critical to delivering performance, resilience, and scalability. These developments not only enhance business performance but also empower communities and economies by strengthening the critical links that connect continents and people.
Is it important for companies to continue to innovate their organization or offerings, and why?
JTR: Innovation is vital to remain competitive, but more importantly, it ensures companies are prepared to meet the evolving needs of customers and communities. At 1547, innovation drives how we design facilities, improve efficiency, and expand interconnection capacity. We continually look ahead to support higher-density deployments, hybrid and multi-cloud architectures, AI infrastructure, and the evolving connectivity requirements of enterprises, carriers, and cloud providers. Our focus extends beyond technology to include workforce development and community engagement, ensuring our growth is inclusive and sustainable. By fostering a culture that embraces change, we deliver long-term value to clients, empower employees, and strengthen the ecosystems in which we operate. The companies that thrive will be those that anticipate tomorrow’s challenges and create infrastructure that adapts to them seamlessly.
What value does PTC hold for you/your company?

For 1547, it has been instrumental in forging partnerships across Asia-Pacific, amplifying our presence in the Pacific region, and strengthening relationships with carriers, cloud providers, network operators, and infrastructure partners. The annual conference and ongoing initiatives offer unique opportunities for knowledge exchange, policy influence, and industry collaboration. The ability to combine visibility with tangible relationship building makes PTC an invaluable resource, helping us expand our global network and identify new opportunities for collaboration and growth.
How does PTC fit your company’s goals or career purpose?
JTR: PTC directly aligns with 1547’s mission to deliver resilient and sustainable connectivity in strategically connected regional markets. Our facilities in Hawaiʻi , AlohaNAP and DRFortress, reflect this vision, serving as vital hubs in the Pacific that connect communities with global networks. By engaging with PTC, we participate in conversations that shape the industry’s future, from advancing interconnection and regional connectivity to addressing sustainability challenges. PTC’s collaborative environment allows us to strengthen relationships, share expertise, and support regional and global connectivity goals. Personally and organizationally, this engagement reinforces our long-term commitment to innovation, growth, and community impact, ensuring our role as both an industry leader and a responsible steward of digital infrastructure.
What advice would you share with current and future graduates interested in this field?
JTR: The digital infrastructure industry evolves at a rapid pace, so adaptability is just as important as technical skill. My advice is to master the fundamentals of networking, power systems, and security, but remain curious and willing to learn across disciplines. Seek mentors who challenge you to think differently, say yes to opportunities that stretch your abilities, and always remember that this industry is ultimately about people. Every project we deliver, whether a new data center or expanded interconnection hub, directly impacts how communities connect, learn, and grow. Technical expertise will set you apart, but purpose-driven leadership and a collaborative mindset will define your long-term success
What is something that not many people know about you?
JTR: Not many people know that my path into digital infrastructure started with a mix of law, finance, and technology. That combination has shaped how I think as a leader and how I approach building companies. Early in my career, I had the chance to take small ideas and turn them into real businesses, which taught me the importance of persistence, teamwork, and vision. Outside of work, I care deeply about giving back, especially through disaster relief and education initiatives in Hawaiʻi , where our facilities are part of the community. Those experiences remind me that our industry is ultimately aboutpeople, not just technology. For me, success means leaving behind more than strong infrastructure; it means creating lasting value for the communities we touch.
