With new technologies continuing to gain steam and new communities coming online, it’s an exciting time in telecom. As we like to do at the close of every month, we took a look through the last several weeks of headlines in the world of global ICT to find out what stories had people talking most in April 2018.

Projecting 5G
Widespread implementation of 5G is right around the corner and there is no shortage of talk about how the technology will be implemented and what it will take for enterprises to get the most out of it. TeleGeography produced an extensive report detailing the readiness of the North American market. China is still thought to be the leader in 5G readiness. PTC also collected some of the opinions and news regarding 5G. Check that out here.

Innovation in APAC
As a region, APAC has continued to show strongly in its potential and actual growth. According to PCCW Global’s Marc Halbfinger, keeping up with the pace of innovation in countries like Hong Kong, China, and South Korea has become a major challenge. Global Cloud Xchange chairman and CEO Bill Barney also spoke on the opportunities and responsibilities of operating in a multi-trillion dollar business landscape.

Collaboration
One of the key drivers of innovation in APAC and in other markets is collaboration. With technologies like 5G, businesses and countries are seeking partnerships that can make their journey easier. India’s telecoms ministry is in talks with South Korean authorities to set up joint 5G test laboratories in India. At the same time, South Korean mobile operators have plans to share the costs for the deployment of a nationwide 5G network.
