Mark is often asked to help boards, executive teams, and engineers shape the future of their telecommunication business. He has experience leading teams to the heart of the matter, drawing out a vision, and working collaboratively on a strategy to deliver award-winning products and services.
Mark has held senior digital roles at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and British Telecommunications and volunteers his time to mentor not-for-profit organizations through a start-up incubator called Seed. He runs workshops, trainings, and speaks at selected events throughout the year.
Mark was awarded the national development agency prize for his research in communication systems and computer science at Swansea University in the U.K.
How can telecommunications technologies help humanity?
What airline travel did to bring humanity together in the last century, telecommunications is doing now. The telecoms technology we plan now will bring future faces, ideas, and the industry together to create a healthier equitable world with less waste. Importantly, it has the potential for all nations, large and small, to use the technology for the benefit of their people.
Is it important for companies to continue to innovate their organization or offerings, and why?
Innovation is about finding ways to be better. Better from the perspective of your customers and better from the perspective of your stakeholders. The world of telecommunications changes at a rapid rate, so it’s important for all companies to have a structured program of innovation that blends both internal ideas with fresh thinking from outside. Rabbit & Lion runs innovation accelerators for a number of organizations. Technology like 5G, IoT, and AI will have benefits that range from reduced costs to winning new customers. How will you plan the best choices for your business?

PTC provides a community for meeting like-minded people, a place where we can learn from each other, share ideas, and help each other make steps toward more innovative telecommunications services.

What advice would you share with current and future graduates interested in this field?
Hitch yourself to a star: find a leader or mentor in this field that you respect and would like to learn from and ask what you can do to help them on their journey. You’ll benefit so much from joining their crew!
What is something that not many people know about you?
I’m a sailor and have competed in the Everest of ocean races: the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
