Live Online Training Course SeptemberPTC completed its first PTC Academy Live Online Training Course for 2020. A fitting milestone as the usual in person event was reformatted to an online format as a consequence of COVID-19. There was a significant amount of re-imagineering involved to get it right.

From my perspective, it worked very well, with technology coming to the rescue to allow the coursework to be delivered seamlessly, while still maintaining the ability for participants to be able to interact with the instructors. We even managed to deliver one module as a workshop with breakout rooms that exceeded our expectations. Given the nature and history of the PTC organization, it is only natural that technology plays a key part in our outreach programs.

It was a great mix of participants, 15 in all, coming from Hong Kong SAR China, Fiji, Australia, Republic of Palau, U.S., and Vanuatu. A real united nations!

I enjoyed delivering the corporate social responsibility module, Doing Well While Doing Good, and the level of participation and engagement from the students was great. It is rewarding to be involved with the PTC Academy and give back to the industry. Our corporate social responsibility is something that we at APTelecom have always regarded as an important part of our core values. To that point, my fellow instructors, Sean Bergin from APTelecom, Gary Kim of IP Carrier, Tony Rossabi with TierPoint, and Tony Mosely from Ocean Specialists, Inc., all pretty much said the same thing: “It’s a rewarding experience.”

PTC Meetings & Events Manager Jacie Matsukawa, who administered the PTC Academy course, commented: “It was a fruitful experience to be a part of the inaugural PTC Academy Live Online Training Course and see students invest in their professional development.”

It’s a great point. No one should ever stop investing in themselves via training as learning should be a life-long habit.

I encourage all of you to either attend an upcoming course like the one we are holding in November, or at least nominate some of your staff to attend.
