Prima Navalink

Rezeki Utomo is the Commercial Director of Prima Navalink and VP of Technology at Soechi Lines. With a background in software engineering and a focus on submarine fiber optics, he leads digital transformation in maritime logistics and oversees vessel conversions for subsea cable operations. He is committed to bridging technology and infrastructure to help expand connectivity across the Asia-Pacific region, working closely with partners to improve and optimize subsea telecommunications.

How can telecommunications technologies help humanity?

In Southeast Asia, telecommunications technologies play a critical role in distributing information across diverse and often remote regions. Access to timely and accurate information improves decision-making, drives productivity, and opens economic opportunities that can help lift communities out of poverty.

At Prima Navalink, we believe connectivity is more than infrastructure—it’s empowerment. With better access to information, farmers optimize yields, students access global education, and entrepreneurs tap into regional and global markets. This flow of knowledge levels the playing field and fosters inclusive growth.

Our work in undersea cable deployment strengthens the digital backbone of Southeast Asia, bridging the gap between isolated communities and the broader digital economy. By enabling faster, more reliable communication, we’re not just improving networks—we’re helping build a future where everyone, regardless of location, has a chance to thrive.

How can corporations and researchers best serve the next generation?

The next generations will benefit most when technology is both affordable and easy to use. Corporations and researchers should focus not only on advancing capabilities but also on reducing costs, so that essential tools and services are accessible to everyone, regardless of background or geography.

Equally important is lowering the learning curve. As technology becomes more complex, simplifying user experiences ensures that more people can participate in and benefit from innovation. The rise of AI is a powerful example—it enables people to solve problems, create content, and analyze data without needing deep technical expertise.

By prioritizing inclusive design and scalable affordability, today’s innovators can ensure tomorrow’s users are empowered, not overwhelmed. That’s how we build a future that works for everyone.

What network-related development will have the greatest impact in our industry?

Edge computing is set to be a game-changer in the telecommunications industry. As more devices generate data in real time—whether in autonomous vehicles, industrial sensors, or smart cities—the ability to process that data closer to the source becomes critical.

This shift reduces latency, improves reliability, and enables entirely new categories of applications that wouldn’t be feasible with centralized computing alone. It represents a fundamental evolution in how networks are structured: not just moving data point-to-point but intelligently distributing computing power across the network itself.

To support this, the underlying transport infrastructure must become faster, more resilient, and regionally integrated. That’s why edge computing isn’t just a computing shift—it’s also a network challenge and opportunity. For companies like Prima Navalink, which are involved in strengthening regional connectivity, it signals the start of a more dynamic, decentralized internet architecture that can support Southeast Asia’s next wave of digital transformation.

How does PTC fit your company’s goals or career purpose?

PTC provides an ideal platform to build meaningful relationships across the global telecommunications ecosystem. For us, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. Whether working with carriers, cable owners, or submarine system integrators, successful outcomes depend on trust, alignment, and shared vision.

PTC fosters exactly that kind of environment—where ideas are exchanged openly, partnerships form naturally, and long-term cooperation is built through genuine connection. It brings together all parts of the industry under one roof, making it easier to align on goals, explore synergies, and address regional challenges together.

This spirit of collaboration perfectly matches our purpose: to contribute to Southeast Asia’s digital growth by working hand-in-hand with stakeholders across the value chain. PTC helps turn that vision into reality.

What important piece of information should people know about PTC?

What many don’t realize is that PTC isn’t just a conference—it’s a community that quietly shapes the direction of digital infrastructure across the Pacific region. From our perspective at Prima Navalink, the real value lies in the conversations that happen between sessions, at small gatherings, or over casual introductions.

PTC gives visibility into how different parts of the ecosystem think—carriers, cable owners, system integrators, cloud players, and investors. That kind of perspective is hard to get elsewhere. It helps us refine our strategy, find alignment with potential partners, and understand where the industry is heading, not just this year but five years out.

For anyone involved in regional infrastructure, PTC is where valuable insight meets meaningful connection. It’s not just about being seen—it’s about truly understanding the people behind the systems we all depend on.

What advice would you share with current and future graduates interested in this field?

Start building relationships early—and be sincere. This industry is incredibly interconnected. Whether you’re in Singapore, Honolulu, or Jakarta, chances are you’ll keep crossing paths with the same people over the years. That makes trust, respect, and authenticity more important than ever.

Don’t treat networking as a short-term exercise. It’s about showing genuine interest, staying consistent, and being someone people want to work with again. Technical skills will take you far, but it’s the strength of your relationships that often determines where you end up.

Also, don’t worry about having all the answers on day one. Stay curious, ask thoughtful questions, and learn from those around you. People here are more open than you might expect—as long as you approach them with humility and sincerity.

What industry mogul or up-and-coming leader have you followed or are currently pursuing, and why?

I’ve been closely following Sam Altman, particularly for his role in accelerating the development and accessibility of AI. Beyond the headlines, what’s compelling is how AI is already driving meaningful productivity gains—from small businesses automating tasks to researchers solving problems at scale.

This rise in AI adoption is also creating tangible ripple effects across the infrastructure space. The demand for faster data access, lower latency, and distributed processing is pushing the industry toward more edge computing and regionally deployed data centers. It’s reshaping how networks are designed and scaled.

From my perspective, leaders like Altman don’t just influence the software layer—they help define what the underlying infrastructure needs to become. And for those of us in telecom and connectivity, that’s both a challenge and an opportunity we’re paying close attention to.
