Blockbuster M&As Continue

As many experts have predicted, consolidation and collaboration are two of the most prevalent themes in the global ICT industry today. In a deal expected to close in Q1 of 2018, Cisco agreed to acquire unified communications specialist BroadSoft for $1.9 billion. This marks the network giant’s eighth acquisition of 2017. Sprint and T-Mobile are also expected to finalize a merger soon that would be a blockbuster deal and a game-changer for the industry as a whole.

Chipmakers Intel and Qualcomm are both positioning themselves as the leader in developing chips to support 5G. While both are expected to conduct extensive trials of 5G this year, Qualcomm claims to have made the first 5G data call, eclipsing gigabit download speeds. Just how ready are operators for 5G? Ericsson conducted a survey of 50 executives to find out.

Meanwhile, Light Reading published an article about the steps New York City is taking to make itself smarter and more connected.
